GST – (PRESS RELEASE) FAQs on the Decisions of the 56th GST Council Meeting
📢 The 56th GST Council meeting was held in New Delhi on 3rd September 2025, under the chairpersonship of the Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. The Council made key recommendations regarding changes in GST tax rates, relief measures for taxpayers, and facilitation of trade.
📌 When will the changes in GST rates come into force?
✅ Changes in GST rates on goods & services (excluding tobacco products) will be effective from 22nd September 2025.
✅ For specified goods such as cigarettes, zarda, unmanufactured tobacco & beedi – the existing GST & compensation cess rates will continue for now.
✅ The revised rates on these items will be notified later, after full discharge of loan & interest liabilities from compensation cess.
